Relationship

Complete the following activity and discuss your results and conclusions with other students in this course.

How does this compare with compliance? What type of lung does this represent?

While the balloon is still inflated, let go of the balloon. Describe what happened?

What did the balloon look like when it came to rest?

How is this similar to compliance?

2) Continue inflating and deflating this same balloon. Describe the level of difficulty inflating this balloon after the balloon has been blown up several times.

How does this compare to the initial experience of inflating the balloon? Why is this?

How would you relate this to compliance?

3) Let go of the balloon and describe what happens.

Describe what it looks like when it comes to rest. What is its shape?

Is there air that remains in the balloon?

In what ways does this represent compliance?

What situation would be appropriate to address in your work setting? How would you assess the needs and identify appropriate interventions for change?

Intervention Strategy

Develop a written intervention strategy, 4-pages in length, that can be applied to the resolution or management of a nursing leadership problem.

Introduction

Note:

Complete Assessments 1 and 2 before beginning this assessment. You will choose one of the leadership problems illustrated in the associated case study scenarios presented in those assessments as the focus in this assessment.

Successful leadership strategies derive from each leader’s strengths, the situation at hand, the environment, and key stakeholders’ involvement. Decision making, problem solving, and critical thinking are learned skills and constitute the criteria by which expertise is judged. In addition to these skills, a solid grounding in leadership theory and strategies, as well as an awareness of how health care policy and legislation can influence such strategies, will better prepare you to respond to a wide range of leadership situations.

This assessment provides an opportunity for you to develop your own innovative approach to resolving or managing a leadership problem, informed by applicable leadership theories and strategies and your assessment of how current health care policy, legislation, and change models might influence that approach.

Preparation

As you prepare to complete this assessment, you may want to think about other related issues to deepen your understanding or broaden your viewpoint. You are encouraged to consider the questions below and discuss them with a fellow learner, a work associate, an interested friend, or a member of your professional community. Topic Submission

The central topic of our talk is going to be about LVADs (Left Ventricular Assist Device). We thought it would be interesting because we both currently work in the cardiothoracic telemetry unit. We get patients with LVADs, but because we are new nurses, we do not have a lot of knowledge about it. We thought it would be great to know more about current contraptions like the LVADs that can help prolong an important organ and evidently prolong someone’s life. It is a device that mainly benefits a certain group (geriatric and/or with related cardiac problems).
