Test Bias

Locate an example of test bias (any type of test) from the trade literature or the popular press (e.g., online newspaper or magazine). Describe the main points in the example, followed by your own opinion about this issue. Be sure to include a discussion of what can be done to minimize test bias in this specific situation. Execute the following line on the R console. What do you get? Can you explain, step by step, how R is interpreting the command?1:10 > Explore the general structure of the data: How many rows and columnsdoes the data have?

Execute the following line on the R console. What do you get? Can you explain, step by step, how R is interpreting the command?1:10 > Explore the general structure of the data: How many rows and column sdoes the data have?

State how the variables are operationally defined, alpha value, what statistical test will be used to answer the research question, and what version of SPSS is being used to analyze the data.

Lab Project: Method Assignment

You will collect data from at least 20 people, using the approved survey submitted with your Introduction. Once you have data from at least 20, you must score the surveys and enter the data into an SPSS file.

Method Section Instructions

Continue with your use of proper formatting – your submission should have a running head, page numbers, Level 1 and Level 2 headings, and in-text citations. How to format a Method section is covered in this module’s Learn section. It should explain the experimental methods with enough detail that a reader can easily replicate the experiment. Don’t forget to use the APA Manual as a guide. Level 2 headings for your Method section must include (in this order and in APA

format): – Participants – include the number of participants, a description of the participants, and sampling procedures

Materials – include a description of the survey questions used, including citations where appropriate (e.g., if you use religiosity you should cite Koenig & Bussing 2010 and if you used spirituality you should cite Hodge, 2003)

Procedure – summarizes where the study took place (e.g., church, small group, Facebook) and the experience of the participants in a detailed and organized manner (Facebook)

Analysis – state how the variables are operationally defined, alpha value, what statistical test will be used to answer the research question, and what version of SPSS is being used to analyze the data. Hint: Due to the brief nature of the course, the statistical test appropriate for this lab is one that is covered sometime during the first 5 modules of PSYC 515 or from PSYC 510. This will give you enough time to reflect on information you have already learned and run the analysis.

Submission Instructions

You will be submitting TWO files: 1. Word document (.doc or .docx) containing: a. Research hypothesis (from the last paragraph of your Introduction) b. Method Section

2. SPSS data file (.sav)

Identify a unique strength of the research and/or written thread.Does the last paragraph contain a specific purpose, problem statement, and (research) hypothesis?

Research Project Intro and Survey Feedback

This Discussion: Lab Project – Introduction requires two replies. No quotes are allowed – paraphrase, put information into your own words, and cite appropriately using current APA formatting conventions. Address all required components for maximum points.

Your two replies must be 150 words each.

Content

Choose 2 classmates’ posts in which to respond. For each, address the following:

Identify a unique strength of the research and/or written thread.

Did the writer start broad and end specific?

Does the last paragraph contain a specific purpose, problem statement, and (research) hypothesis?

Is formatting correct?

Identify at least TWO specific ways to improve the paper.

Cite specific portions of the APA Publication Manual to substantiate your suggestions.

Explain your rationale behind the list of attributes and the contents of the system diagram, and list of source applications.

Fleet CT3MiS300

You are tasked with developing a relational database model for a Fleet Management System. Use example below relational database model. The purpose of this system is to produce an asset listing of all trucks in the company’s fleet including information on the truck, acquisition cost and depreciation.

In addition, the system must provide a history of operational costs and maintenance costs categorized by the type of cost, e.g. gas, oil, and types of repairs.

The deliverable for this assignment must include:

A list of the tables in this model for use in the Fleet Management System. Each table must contain the top three attributes.

A list of application areas such as Purchasing and Accounts Payable which will be the source of the transactions necessary to update the Fleet Management System.

A system diagram of the Fleet Management System including databases and source data applications.

Brief narratives explaining your rationale behind the list of attributes and the contents of the system diagram, and list of source applications.

Provide a 150-250 word analysis of the descriptive statistics on the spreadsheet. This should include differences and health outcomes between groups.

Descriptive statistics

There is often the requirement to evaluate descriptive statistics for data within the organization or for health care information. Every year the National Cancer Institute collects and publishes data based on patient demographics.

Understanding differences between the groups based upon the collected data often informs health care professionals towards research, treatment options, or patient education.

Using the data on the “National Cancer Institute Data” Excel spreadsheet, calculate the descriptive statistics indicated below for each of the Race/Ethnicity groups. Refer to your textbook and the Topic Materials, as needed, for assistance in with creating Excel formulas.

Provide the following descriptive statistics:

Measures of Central Tendency: Mean, Median, and Mode

Measures of Variation: Variance, Standard Deviation, and Range (a formula is not needed for Range).

Once the data is calculated, provide a 150-250 word analysis of the descriptive statistics on the spreadsheet. This should include differences and health outcomes between groups.

APA style is not required, but solid academic writing is expected.

Describe the test and how it is applied to the study. Break down the test into smaller steps. Identify each step and describe the purpose of each step, and how it relates to the test as a whole. Finally, explain why this test was appropriate for the study purpose.

Selects the appropriate statistical test for a given scenario. Using the Library, identify a peer-review study that uses a statistical analysis, such as regression, ANOVA, or t test.

In a report, describe the test and how it is applied to the study. Break down the test into smaller steps. Identify each step and describe the purpose of each step, and how it relates to the test as a whole. Finally, explain why this test was appropriate for the study purpose.

What type of sampling technique was used (for example, stratified, clustered, random, convenience, or systematic)? Why was this technique used? How were the subjects contacted? Was this method appropriate?

Evaluating studies

Review a variety of polls on the site.

Choose a poll to report on that closely aligns to your field of study or area of professional interest.

Review the information in the Survey Methods section of the article. This section details how the study was conducted. Also, study all information contained in additional links at the bottom of this section. You will use this information to complete your assessment.

Then, answer the following questions about the Gallup poll you selected:

What was the purpose of the poll? Write a brief summary. Include the title and link to the article within your summary.

What were the population and sample? Why is this sample appropriate for the population? What was the sample size? Was the sample size large enough to reflect the opinions of the population?

Were the results parameters or statistics? Why?

What type of sampling technique was used (for example, stratified, clustered, random, convenience, or systematic)? Why was this technique used? How were the subjects contacted? Was this method appropriate?

What was the confidence interval and margin of error? Interpret what the confidence interval means as it relates to the context of the survey.

What were the exact questions asked? Do you think the wording of the questions influenced the participants’ responses?

Did you find any evidence of bias in the poll? If so, describe the source of the bias. If not, how was bias avoided?

Describe the strengths and weaknesses of the statistical test that was used. Be sure to cite the textbook or other course materials used to provide this information.

Individual Data Collection and Analysis (Kinesiology)

Description

Your individual task is to submit a 3 page, double-spaced typed summary of a sample of data collection and analysis.

You can work together as a group to collect your data, but each individual is responsible for their own summary of the data collection process and analysis.

For example, each person can record their total number of steps they take per day, once on a work day and once when they are not working, and then share with the group to increase the overall sample.

Then, each person will do their own description of the data collection process and submit their own analysis summary.

Start with a general research question and then describe how you collected the data and then summarize the results from your analysis.

This task has two sections: 1) research question and data collection, and 2) data analysis.

More directions are on the attached Word Doc.
