Provide a set of descriptive statistics for each variable measured for both top and sub soil. This information must be provided in a table and the R code used to achieve this table must be listed beneath.

R code..soil samples

In this assessment you will use the soils dataset created earlier in the course by the class to demonstrate an

ability to summarise, present and statistically analyse data.

1. To demonstrate an understanding of hypothesis development.

2. To demonstrate the ability to summarise and plot data within R and Excel.

3. To demonstrate the ability to choose and run appropriate statistical tests.

4. To interpret the output of statistical tests and accept or reject hypothesis accordingly.

ASSESSMENT:

The aim of this assessment is for you to demonstrate that you are able to independently analyse a dataset you have gathered in R. Remember to differentiate between ‘treatments’, ‘independent samples’ and ‘replicates’ when choosing data for analysis (refer to first lecture and reading).

Note both Excel and Text files have been provided with your data, these files may not be in the correct format for appropriate analysis and you may want to carry out further refinement.

If you choose to do this, save your edited Excel files as a text file to be imported into R (make sure the column names are sensible).

As part of this assessment you are expected to:

1. Develop two sets of hypothesis (each with both a null [H0] and alternate [H1]) which consider physical

or chemical differences between the top and sub soil. These can be informed by the information known about soils from your reading and other courses (see reading list for week two).

Note It is a well expressed and correctly developed hypothesis  am looking for here, not a technically correct one, so don’t worry if you don’t have a soils background.

2. Provide a set of descriptive statistics for each variable measured for both top and sub soil. This information must be provided in a table and the R code used to achieve this table must be listed beneath.

3. Provide a graph (export from R and insert into your document) which summarises the data used to test each hypothesis, also list the code used to generate the graph.

4. Test the appropriate data for normality; present the output and your interpretation.

5. Select and run an appropriate inferential test for each hypothesis. You must provide evidence for inferential test outputs (code, graphs and test outputs).

Provide a short explanation of the process you used to choose the statistical test, i.e explain how your data fulfilled test assumptions (up to 350 words).

HINT: Use lecture materials (most of the clues you will need will be available there) with independent reading and research to support this section.

6. State whether the null hypothesis have been accepted or rejected.

Your report should be clearly structured and should include:

Your matriculation number as a header

A title

An introduction (≤ 150 words)

A brief introduction to the report to describe what samples were analysed and what comparisons you look at in your report.

Your hypotheses

Two pairs of alternate and null hypotheses (See point 1, above)

Methodology (≤ 150 words)

Very brief methodology describing how the samples were collected and analysed (remember

the samples were collected from the soil pits and analysed in the lab.) – Results (≤ 350 words, see point 5, above)

This is where you present the data analysis outlined in points 2 – 5, above.

Remember to include the R code you used for any calculations, graphs etc.

Remember to include a legend with brief description and figure number under each graph.

(these don’t count towards word count for the section) – Discussion (≤ 200 words)

State whether the null hypothesis has been accepted or rejected and explain what this means in the context of the samples that you analysed.

Conclusion (≤ 150 words)

Brief conclusion to summarise the findings of your experiment and analysis.

What does this tell you about the nature of the organization? Does that bias alter the degree to which you trust the website? Should it?

Before you begin this essay you will need to read “Evaluating Internet Research Sources” by Robert Harris (Links to an external site.)

For this essay, you will select a website that discusses a current controversial issue that you are interested in. You cannot use Wikipedia. You will need to clearly identify the title of the website and URL in your essay.

You will then evaluate the website that you have selected.

Use the following questions as a guide. Remember, simple Yes or No answers will not be enough. You will need to take time to explain your evaluations of the website and include specific examples/details to support your evaluations. Both in-text documentation and a works cited page in MLA format are required.

Here are some questions to consider as you evaluate the website. DO NOT try to respond to all of the questions. Select questions that you can answer, develop and support in your evaluation of the website.

Look for signs indicating the website is regularly updated. When was the website last updated? Does the lack of an update date help you to determine whether or not the website is credible/reliable?

Is the website posted anonymously? If it is anonymous, ask yourself why do you think you (or the reader) should trust the information even though it comes from an unknown source.

Does the website list contact information for the author or organization (e-mail address, mailing address, phone number) so you can verify the person or organization really exists by trying to contact them?

Is the author someone particularly likely to be a trustworthy source? Does the website list his/her credentials, experience, title, occupation or other relevant information?

Is the author associated with a respected or well-known organization? Does that organization have an interest or investment in being impartial, accurate, and trustworthy?

Does that organization have a financial or political stake in persuading you to trust its judgment that might make it biased or untrustworthy?

Has the website organized its information into numbered sections or provided a means of citation for scholars and researchers?

Does the website have a clear agenda, such as a commercial, political bias/motivation for its publication? Examine the address endings for the website (For instance, .com, .biz, .gov, .edu, .org, .mil, or .mus.)

What does this tell you about the nature of the organization? Does that bias alter the degree to which you trust the website? Should it?

Ask yourself if the web author has taken the time to proofread her webpage.

Has the author spent the time to create a neat, visually engaging but easily accessible webpage? If not, does that sloppiness detract from the reader’s trust? Why or why not?

An occasional typo or grammatical error might mean nothing, but two or three within a few paragraphs might indicate this individual didn’t spend much time on the project or might not be very professional.

Is there any evidence of quality control? For instance, has the publication been “refereed” (peer-reviewed by other writers or editors)?

Was it written by or for an organization that evaluates information before publication? If not, does it use quotations from such a source?

Are there signs that the writer or author is incompetent, poorly educated, or apathetic about his project?

The paper will be graded based on

Organization and development of ideas

Use of specific examples/details

Grammar and mechanics

Documentation of sources

Paper must have a work cited page

Crime and Causation:Discuss your own views on crime causation.Describe your general thoughts on why people break the law.

Crime and Causation

The assignment must be double-spaced in Times New Roman 12 font.

The paper must be a minimum of 500 words in length.

Title page required with your name, date, and title: Critical Thinking Assignment: Thinking about Crime.

The assignment is worth 20 points.

The ‘thinking about crime’ paper is a 500 essay where you will discuss your own views on crime causation.

In particular,  describe (1) your general thoughts on why people break the law, and

(2) the events and processes in your life that have shaped these views. In other words, want you to provide an explanation as to why your thoughts on crime causation are the way they are (i.e., why do you feel the way you do about the cause(s) of crime?).

What is the impact of the housing environment and residential needs on the quality of life perception by expatriate workers?

Diplomatic Residential Program – The quality of life through overseas housing.

As Quality of Life is considered to be influenced by the nature of environments that individuals live in (The Whoqol Group, 1998), this research particularly directs its attention to the housing facilities provided for expatriate workers. The motivation for undertaking the research stems from findings by Howden-Chapman, Roebbel, & Chisholm (2017) which revealed that the provision of well-designed housing was important in promoting overall quality of life. Therefore, by extension, the research argues that by providing high quality housing and residential environments for expatriate workers, this is anticipated to improve their success rates in international assignments, thereby, enhancing performance of global firms. The high-quality housing and residential environments are further contextualized in terms of the expatriates’ satisfaction towards daily commute, home environment, safety and utilities or maintenance.

Research Question

i. What is the impact of the housing environment and residential needs on the quality of life perception by expatriate workers?

Research Objectives

i. To identify the impact of commute satisfaction on quality of life perception by expatriate workers.

ii. To investigate the impact of home satisfaction on quality of life perception by expatriate workers.

iii. To understand the impact of safety satisfaction on quality of life perception by expatriate workers.

iv. To identify the impact of maintenance satisfaction on quality of life perception by expatriate workers.
