Critically evaluate ONE of the criminological perspectives you have studied this term. Your evaluation should address to what extent and in what ways your chosen criminological perspective has understood each of the following issues.

Social reaction (labelling theory)

This module will be assessed on the basis of one 1500-word assignment. The coursework must be handed in by 4pm Tues 16/08/21.

This piece of coursework constitutes 100% of the module assessment.

The coursework task:

Critically evaluate ONE of the criminological perspectives you have studied this term. Your evaluation should address to what extent and in what ways your chosen criminological perspective has understood each of the following issues.

Be aware that not all criminological perspectives deal with each issue to the same extent.

1. Criminal offenders

2. Victims of crime

3. Crime control

(The criminological perspective chosen is Social reaction/labelling theory)

Marks will be awarded for evidence a) relevant reading, b) critical understanding of the perspective you have chosen c) evaluation of strength and weaknesses of the perspective, for example through comparison with other perspectives and d) effective illustration through relevant examples.

In writing your essay:

· Support your arguments with relevant examples;

· Avoid being overly descriptive – e.g. do not just describe a theory – explain why it is relevant or important. You will gain marks for analysis and evaluation, not description;

· Always reference your sources and provide a full reference list of sources used

· Keep within the word limit – it is designed to get you to think carefully about how to organise and illustrate your answer. Assignments more than 10% over the word limit will be subject to penalties.

· Be aware: there is zero tolerance on plagiarism on this module.

Also provided a reading list if needed)

Explain how experience, identity and desistance of individual prisoners be seen and interpreted.

Criminology and psychology

For this project you must choose one of the documents offered in the list of the assignment brief-have also attached them

Using the document, you must explain how experience, identity and desistance of individual prisoners be seen and interpreted.

These areas then need to be critically evaluated alongside penological literature studied as part of the module so that you can draw a conclusion and create your own position and argument about the document.

Will attach also my lecture notes too so you have an idea

This MUST BE CRITICALLY EVUALTED- understand how to do this as a lot of writers have not understood this term it’s important as the marks are based on critically evaluating

Fully reference and ensure all text is cited with a reference

What are some variables of interest? What questions are you planning to ask the public? Other than Yes/No, you would need to use matrix questions, contingency questions, and open-ended questions.

Interview 1-2 people via Skype, Facetime, or Zoom (or in-person if they are in your household) who participated in your survey.

What did you find? Discuss what you have learned from your interview, in addition to your survey. Include a copy of the interview questions. (Total 2 pages, not including the questions)

Think about what follow-up questions you would like to ask your survey participants. Remember, the goal of interview method is to gain as much information as possible!! It’s also a great method to overcome some of the disadvantages of survey methods. Review some common interview questions shown in our course slides.

What are some variables of interest? What questions are you planning to ask the public? Other than Yes/No, you would need to use matrix questions, contingency questions, and open-ended questions.

You should’ve explained more in-depth concerning questions/variables/attritbutes.

For example, what are some variables and attributes you want to come up with for the “psychological aspect of crime”? It needs to be a bit more specific.

Usually, in surveys, your participants’ responses (perceptions) are your DV because their responses are dependent on your question. Your IV should be those survey questions related to crime.
