Class Theatre Appreciation
Of the production side of theatre – acting, directing, lighting design, sound design, costume design, props design, scenic design, or dramaturgy
– what do you personally think would be the most challenging for you if you were a theatre artist and why? What do you perceive as the most exciting or rewarding and why?
Imagine you are a theatre company producing both Hamlet and Joe Turner’s Come and Gone in your 2021-2022 season, but due to the challenges of COVID-19, you have a VERY small budget for your productions.
Based on the text of both, justify your choices to cut the budget of 2 areas (acting, directing. lighting, sound, costume, props, scenery, dramaturgy).
If you had to eliminate the budget of those two areas of production completely, which two would you eliminate and why?
Alternatively, if you have a better idea for your 21-22 season based on the scripts provided in the files for this course, propose the 2 shows that would work for your company’s season and why you’re choosing those two pieces and how to make them work with a limited budget.
